Erasmus 2019 Italy Adventure

Learning and positive aspects of week 1

We started the week of by having our orientation to set us up for our two weeks in our New jobs and home’s. Then we explored Rimini what a wonderful place to be.

Next morning we set off to see where we would be working for the two weeks. We had to get the bus but this was so convenient they were always on time and came very often in the morning. I am studying social care and the job setting I was in was with people with Disabilities.

At first we where shown around the facility it was second to none. The building was laid out perfectly and the rooms where colour coordinated. They referred to rooms as laboratories. After our tour we just got stuck in. My first day I was in the laboratory where they were working on there radio channel for there podcast they all had there own DJ names. Day two I was in the laboratory where we were using Skype and also making candle holders with Art’s and crafts day three we were making costumes for the upcoming Easter festival. By day four I was helping all around where ever I was need.

Challenge’s Encountered

The biggest challenge at the start was the language barrier which was down to me not having good Italian. But that changed quick I used Google translate for a bit. Then I just tried my best to communicate with my little bit of Italian and body language. The staff where so understanding and made me feel so welcome.

Self Evaluation week 1

As I had never worked in a setting with people with Disabilities I was a bit apprehensive. But that past quickly and I was looking forward to the next day every day 😊 I would like to add a big thank you to the Erasmus aslo to John Healy for all his hard work and to Mallow college and all the tutor’s Alex, Paul and paola 👍

Culture

Italian culture is steeped in the arts, family, architecture, music and food. Home of the Roman Empire and a major center of the Renaissance, culture on the Italian peninsula has flourished for centuries. In Italy Italians close up show and go home to eatlunch–from 12pm – 3:30 or 4pm! They consider lunch as the more important meal of the day.
