Potter, port and Porto

What a beautiful city on the banks of the river Douro.Best seen by looking across the river from Gaia and admiring the stacked city of Porto with the colourful waterfront of the Ribeira. We took a cruise beneath the many bridges and wondered at all the ships that must have sailed up this river during the Portuguese age of discovery. After this it was off to do some port tasting in the city where the drink derived its name from. Following lunch it was time to do some climbing. Every where we looked there were magnificent blue and white tiled fronted buildings, however Sao Bento station was outstanding. Livraria lello where J.K.Rowling reputedly got her inspiration for parts of Hogwarts had really long queues so thats a job for another day. So much to see it’s definitely a city that needs another visit.
