Erasmus Diary Slovenia Week 1

Hi everyone, my name is Stephanie and I was lucky enough to be chosen along with a number of other students to participate in this three week long trip to Maribor in Slovenia. I was excited to visit Slovenia as it is a country I had not heard much about and was interested to see what it has to offer.

Getting here was quite a long journey but not a difficult one. Our accommodation is within the University dorms. They are clean and in close proximity to the centre but as can be expected, are very busy at times.

Our work placements didn’t start until a few days after we arrived so the initial days were occupied with presentations of what the country has to offer as well as completing a Health & Safety course. However, we did also squeeze in a walking tour of the city of Maribor and had some free time to explore the area for ourselves.

From what I have seen so far, the country is beautiful and the people are very friendly. The weather hasn’t been great unfortunately although the sun did make an appearance today which was definitely welcomed.

My work placement is very easily accessible by bus and is going really well. Also, luckily for me, I have not had a problem with communication as each person I have met so far have had very good English.

Overall, my first impressions of Slovenia and Maribor in particular are good. It appears very safe and easy to move around, by bus or on foot. I am looking forward to what the next couple of weeks have in store. Bye for now 😊
